Orders API - submitting order notes to kitchen tickets
AnsweredWe're submitting order notes (e.g. make and model of a car for curbside order) as a SPECIAL_REQUEST Selection on the order check. This prints the note to the customer's copy of the receipt but not to the kitchen receipt.
Is there a way to submit these notes so that they appear on the kitchen receipt?

Hi Matt,
If you submit these orders as true curbside pickup orders rather than sending car info in special requests, car information will appear on kitchen tickets. More info about submitting curbside orders is here. Let me know if this resolves the issue you have in mind!

Hey Liz, maybe this wasn't a good example. This isn't just an issue for curbside orders. We also send order level notes this way. Is there another solution that would work for general notes as well?

Hi Matt,
I spoke to a few team members to get input about how to accomplish the workflow you have in mind. Here's a summary of order-level special request functionality:
- If you send a special request that is at the parent item selection level rather than a modifier, there is not a way for this information to print on kitchen tickets, because there is not a way to map free-text special requests to a specific area of the kitchen to route to.
- To allow free-text special requests to print to the kitchen, the special requests will need to be modifier selections rather than parent item selection level.
- For curbside information specifically (car make and model), thereĀ isĀ a way for this information to print to kitchen tickets using curbside order submission.
We're interested in knowing what other types of info you tend to submit as order-level free-text information besides curbside info. Do you submit delivery instructions, items that aren't on the menu, other things? What kind of information are you hoping to print to the kitchen?

Another way we use order level notes would be for dine-in ordering, to specify a table number, for example.

Oh, got it! In terms of sending table information on an order, have you considered submitting the table on the order itself? Instructions for doing so are here.
