    Hi Lilia,

Thanks for reaching out! Prep stations are configured in the Toast administration back-end. You can retrieve prep station information from the Kitchen API through the /prepStations endpoint. As long as the menu or menu items are configured with a prep status in the Toast administration back-end, order origin will not impact how orders are routed to the KDS.

In the scenario you are describing, it is possible that the menu used for 3rd party ordering differs from the menu used in-house. If they are using a different menu that does not reference the prep stations, you would run into the issue you are describing.

The following links provide more information about prep stations:

If you would like me to look into a specific restaurant, let me know, and I can open a ticket for you about this issue.

    Thank you!

I know this thread is a few years old but also working on this and seeing if the above information still holds true. If we send an order for DINE_IN via the Orders API, does it automatically use the configured prep status in the Toast admin panel to route the menu item? Is there any way we can route it using the API different from what is set up?

    Hi Parag Shah ,

Prep stations are assigned to menu, menu group, subgroup, menu item, or modifier group. The routing is not dining option specific. If the order you submit contains items with configured prep stations, those items will route automatically. There is not a way for your integration to alter this routing via API.

    Thanks,
    Ann

    Hey Ann,

Are we not able to use “Item Routing” based on Dining Option to change the configured routing? That was my understanding. The issue here is with venues who have multiple bars as there is no way within Toast (from my understanding) to route bar drinks to different bars based on where the order is placed from (i.e. Patio, indoor, etc). It would be great if we had the option to do this.

Let me know if this makes sense.

    Hi Parag Shah,

Thank you for the clarification, this is helpful context! I misspoke in my initial response. Routing rules can be set for dining options. Please take a look at these guide to understand those configurations:

I recommend that the restaurant reach out to our General Care team for support on setting up these configurations.

    Thanks,

    Ann

Ann Murphy it would be great if we could update the dining option for the check via the API. Let me know if this is something you can add to the features list.
