There are three statuses, OPEN, PAID, and CLOSED.

    • OPEN - There is a remaining balance. This could be because the check has not been paid, or only partially.
    • PAID - The full balance of the check has been paid, but the tip has not been adjusted. This doesn't mean there will be a tip (someone could tip in cash) this just means the system has not received confirmation that no update (in the form of a tip) is needed.
    • CLOSED - Either the check has been confirmed as no declared tip, or a tip has been applied.

As a note, CLOSED does not mean the state cannot be moved back to paid or open - due to refunds, adjusted payments, or the need to adjust tip.
