Pushing guest data into Toast CRM via captive Wi-Fi portal — supported path?
Hi,
I'm a developer working on behalf of a hospitality client who uses Toast. We build captive Wi-Fi portals for venues — when
guests connect to the Wi-Fi, they provide their name, email address, and phone number before being granted access.
Our client would like this guest data to flow into their Toast CRM automatically, so they can build a unified guest
database without manual entry.
I've reviewed the developer documentation and noticed the CRM API (which supports adding guest records) is listed as
deprecated, with a note that it will be "replaced by future Toast API functionality." However, I couldn't find a timeline
for removal or any detail on what the replacement will look like.
I have a few questions:
1. Is the deprecated CRM API still functional today, and is there any known timeline for its removal?
2. Is there a planned replacement that would support creating/updating guest profiles from an external system?
3. For our use case (contracted developer working on a single restaurant group's integration), would a restaurant
management group API account be the appropriate access tier?
4. Is there any other recommended approach for pushing externally-collected guest contact data into Toast?

- No, the CRM API is no longer functional or available for use today.
- Is there a planned replacement that would support creating/updating guest profiles from an external system?
- No, there is currently no planned replacement for this functionality.
- For our use case (contracted developer working on a single restaurant group's integration), would a restaurant management group API account be the appropriate access tier?
- Access to Restaurant Management API credentials and the ability to push data into Toast is limited to approved custom integrations. Whether this API account is appropriate depends on your specific needs and whether the group you are working with qualifies for this level of access.
- Is there any other recommended approach for pushing externally-collected guest contact data into Toast?
- Guest data can only be pushed into Toast when associated with an order submission. There is no API endpoint for pushing standalone guest data.
